Ruby Bankhead


Ruby Bankhead is a textile designer and hand weaver based in South London. She achieved a first class honors degree at Chelsea College of Arts studying Textile Design. Though her work is mainly fine art based by creating cloth to be hung and draped as artwork. Traditional and antique textiles has been influential throughout Bankhead’s work by the use of repetitive stripe, tartan and gingham mimicking french linen.

The importance of understanding the texture of each yarn and hand making everything with detail  is very important to her and her work as it respects the anicent traditions of textile craft. The process has a slow pace which requires patience and results to an immense appreciation of the materials. The artworks are made with the goal of enjoying the process and steps as well as creating an end piece.
